The Orchard

For over 40 years the orchard has been tended to, cared for, and laboured over. Each year it has been protected from the dry South Australian weather, bushfires that have licked at its edges, and the constant creep of blackberry bushes threatening to strangle it. It is a testament to the time and work that it takes to nurture something into being and keep it alive.

A vibrant, saturated green surrounded by mottled eucalypts in the valley, the orchard is an oasis where nothing else appears, or needs, to exist. Looking up through the leaves, the harsh sun washes it all away.

Second Skin

The exoticism of tattooing lies in its association with the forbidden and the taboo - often linked with the fringes of society, gently lingering at the shoreline of contemporary art. The 21st Century has seen major shifts in the tattoo industry, and particularly how artists express themselves on surfaces other than skin. This exhibition, Second Skin, gathers thirteen South Australian tattoo artists in an opportunity to explore what it means to be an artist first and a tattooist second. Teetering between two identities as creatives, they trade needles for pens, pencils, and brushes, and highlight the duality of their collective practices.
